On Saturday, November 10, at the Hershey Park Stadium, the Marple Newtown Tiger Marching Band earned second place at the Cavalcade of Bands Championships. They also earned the award for High Music. They competed against 16 other marching bands in the Liberty Division (bands of 59-83 members), earning a score of 94.6 out of 100. Members of the Tiger Band’s senior class accepted the awards on behalf of the Tiger Band. The Tiger Band performed their field show “The Grid,” music by Frank Sullivan and drill by Todd Marcocci. The Tiger Band is under the direction of Michael S. Massimo. Additional staff are Laura Wooden, Richard Schmidt, Colin Hayden, Jake Olimpi, Steve Weiss, Greg Gillin and Sherwood Solely. Senior Nate Pentz is Drum Major.
The Tiger Band will be participating in West Chester’s annual Holiday Parade on Friday, November 30. Tiger Band members are also selling tickets for their annual Gift Card Bouquet Fundraiser. Marple Newtown Music Parents Association will raffle off gift cards totaling $2000 to three winners at Marple Newtown High School’s annual Winter Concert on December 19, 2012. Tickets are $5 each or 5 for $20. Winner does not need to be present. Tickets can be purchased from any MNHS music student or look out for us at the December 1 Broomall tree lighting, December 2 Newtown Square Tree Lighting, MNHS fall play “A Christmas Carol” on December 13, 14 and 15 and at our Winter Concerts on December 18 & 19 at MNHS.
